Our Story
ALAN & GEOFF LETTS STORY
From my earliest memory I’ve been fascinated by cars. My Mum says that when she took me out in my pram, if she went past a shop that sold the little Matchbox toy cars, and I didn’t get one, I made such a fuss that she avoided going near any toy shops!
My brother Geoff is 3 years younger than me, and as soon as he could fit into a Baby Walker we were always doing stuff together. In 1975, when I was 13, a school friend of mine invited me to come and watch Stock Car racing, and that afternoon changed my life. I was hooked on watching the various forms of oval racing, and of course so was my brother.
In 1980 I got to race on the ovals for the first time and from that point “racing was life”. We both raced on the ovals in various formulae, and then in 1989 I moved to circuit racing in the Renault 5 Turbo Cup, shortly afterwards Geoff moved to circuit racing in Historic Formula Fords.
In 1991 I moved to the Group N Saloon car series in a Vauxhall Astra GTE, Geoff continued with his Formula Ford, there were a handful of outings in a Sierra Sapphire Cosworth before moving to the Mini 7 series where we each had a Mini, so we could race against each other! For 2007 historic racing looked attractive so we pooled our resources and bought a Lotus Cortina, which we’re still racing together.
In 2015, Peter James, the well known crime author, invited me to race his BMW 1800 TiSA with him. Since then we’ve become great friends and he’s let me race his Mini Cooper, A35 and Chevrolet Corvette as well. Remarkably, everything we’ve raced has been built and developed in-house by Geoff.
I’m very fortunate in that he inherited our Dad’s engineering skills, and he’s developed himself to become a first rate race car engineer, who can do all aspects of race car preparation.
So, it’s been over 40 years of living the dream of doing something very special with my brother, and many many people that came onboard to help us at various times.
We’re still racing, and still making memories…
