OUR CARS
Chevrolet Corvette
In 2018 my good friend Peter, who lets me co-drive with him, purchased a 1962 Chevrolet Corvette.
The car debuted at the 2019 Silverstone Classic in the maroon livery that it had been painted back in the 1990’s.
The car has a significant racing history having been ordered as a race car from Chevrolet and competed at both Daytona and Sebring in 1962.
NASCAR stars Marvin Panch and Johnny Allen raced the car in ’62, and it’s been a huge thrill to follow in their wheel tracks.
In 2019 the car made its debut at the Goodwood Revival and Geoff and I both got to share the car at that event in 2021, a truly special moment for both of us to be racing together at the Revival.
At Daytona in 2022 I was excited to meet former NASCAR driver, Johnny Allen, and hear from him, first hand, his experience of racing the same Corvette that I’m now racing, back in 1962.
The car is challenging because although it’s powered by a mighty 5.4 litre V8 engine, it has to stop via the original drum brakes, and corner on narrow period tyres!
Taylor Automotive in Sussex have done a magnificent job in engineering the Corvette to ensure it’s competitive in its class.
LOTUS CORTINA
By the end of 2006 we felt as though we’d achieved all that we could racing each other in the Mini 7 championship; it was time to find a new challenge.
We’d heard about a series for historic racing called Under 2 Litre Touring Cars (U2TC). The idea of racing on some of the most iconic circuits in Europe and sharing a car for 1 hour races really appealed, so we purchased a 1963 Lotus Cortina from a friend.
It’s a genuine early Lotus Cortina that had been raced in Australia from when it was new, and our friend had brought it to the UK when he moved back here.
So, for the last 18 years we’ve raced the Cortina in the US at Daytona, and all over Europe at most of the famous historic race circuits, plus of course Donington, Brands Hatch and Silverstone in the UK.
We’re currently racing with Masters Historic Racing in their Pre 1966 Touring Car Series.
