Good run at Silverstone this week. Car checked out okay, we’re ready for Brands end of May

Oct: Dijon. Starting 7th on the grid, 3rd in class we blasted up the order on the opening lap to gain the class lead. A big push saw the gap extend out to 30 seconds at the driver change. A pit miscue involving another car resulted in a delay and a drop down the order. A stirling drive in the second part of the race enabled Alan to hold on to second in class until the chequered flag. 5th overall, 2nd in under 2 Litre class, and second in class. 2 trophies, big smiles all round!

August; Nurburgring. Class win for the second year at the Old Timer GP meeting. The car was strong out of the trailer. We got faster with each session and grabbed class pole, and 12th overall by 2 secs. Come the race we had to see off retired F1 driver Arturo Mezario in a quick Alfa GTA. A mid race red flag period saw the cars closed up and any time gaps erased. The chase was on! After the driver change Alan got his head down and was able to extend the gap again, set a personal fastest lap ever and seal the win.

May; Brands Hatch. A return to the Kent GP circuit is always special and the good weather promised fast racing. We lined up 7th overall for the race, 3 quick Cortina’s ahead. Everything went well, moving up the order until the pitstop. The clutch failed and left us nursing the car home. Great battle with Nick Swift in his Mini saw us cross the line 5th overall and second in class. Great result, shame the car wasn’t perfect!

April; Imola. Fastest Cortina in qualifying saw us line up 8th overall. A last lap of qualifying banzai effort saw the car pip the rest of the class for pole. Super pleased. In the race we stayed ahead until the driver change and a harness malfunction dropped us back down the order.  Racing hard to catch up the gearbox failed with 3 laps to go leaving us as a retirement. Disappointed but great to have a fast car.

2017 season;

August; Nurburgring. A late tyre change to dry’s in qualifying saw us leap ahead to first in class by 2 seconds a lap and secure a strong starting position. At the green flag the race was on to stay ahead of the competition and hopefully build a gap. Our gamble to go with dry settings on a wet track paid off as a dryer line slowly appeared. We capitalised on this to pull out a 60 second lead by the driver change. With Alan in the car the weather decided to deteriorate back to rain. He kept his head and the car on the track and managed to further extend our lead to a whole lap by the chequers. Great result for the team made all the better because Matt from Colstock Construction was on hand with his guests to share the celebration .

May; Brands Hatch. A problem in qualifying saw the car line up 18th out of 41 cars which wasn’t really what we had planned. The race was a full on charge to the front...just overtake whatever is ahead. 10th after lap 1 saw us climb to P7 at the pit stop and then 2 safety car periods enabled us to further catch the leaders. With 5 laps to run the final safety car ended and it was flat out to the finish. A pass for 3rd on the penultimate lap meant we finished on the podium 3rd overall and 2nd in class. Wow!

A big thanks to Matt at Colstock for helping in the pits and being a part of our team

April; Following a successful pre event test the team returned to Donington Park for the 2017 Historic Festival.

Pipped for P2 in the last minutes of qualifying by two of the fastest Cortina’s we lined up 5th on the grid for the first race. A super close race ensued with us contesting a podium finish for the whole 40 minutes of the race. Finishing a strong 5th place gave us a good start position for race 2 and showed we had the pace to fight for a top position.

Race 2 was a similar affair to race 1, although a safety car period for an on track incident jumbled the order and made for a 5 lap dash to the flag. We made up 6 places and finished a rewarding 7th to give us a combined result of 5th overall in the standings.
